What are Banpools & Crossbanning?
Banpools are organized groups of servers that share a banning system together. This means that if a user is cross-banned in one server, they will be banned in all other servers that are connected via banpools.
Example Scenario
- • Alice and Bob are friends who run servers and often need to ban similar problematic users
- • Alice creates a banpool with the name
"bad-people-club" - • Alice creates an invite and invites Bob to join the banpool - the 2 servers are now connected
- • Bob crossbans a user in his server who he suspects will also cause problems in Alice's server
- • The user gets banned in both Bob's and Alice's server automatically!
How to Use Banpools
Using banpools involves two main steps: creating a banpool and then using the crossban command to ban users across all connected servers.
Step 1: Create a Banpool
Use the command:
/banpool create <pool name>Note: These names are globally unique, so two banpools with the same name cannot exist.
Step 2: Invite Friends to the Banpool
Use the command:
/banpool invite <pool name>This generates a single-use invite code that expires after 15 minutes. Share this code with your friends.
Step 3: Join a Banpool
If you received an invite code, use:
/banpool join <code>Your server is now fully linked and ready to share bans!
Step 4: Ban Users Across All Servers
Use the crossban command:
/crossban <user> <reason>The user will be banned from all servers connected to the banpool immediately!
Managing Your Banpools
View Your Banpools
/banpool listView a full list of banpools you are subscribed to or a part of.
Get Banpool Information
/banpool info <pool name>Get detailed information about a banpool and see which servers are currently connected to it. (Creator only)
Leave a Banpool
/banpool leave <pool name>Remove your server from a banpool. If you accidentally leave, ask your friend for a new invite to rejoin.
Remove a Server from Your Banpool
/banpool remove <serverId>As the creator of a banpool, remove another server from your banpool. (Creator only)
Best Practices
Only Invite Trusted Servers
Only invite servers you trust to your banpool. Cross-bans affect all connected servers, so make sure the banpool members have consistent moderation standards.
Use Clear Naming
Use descriptive names for your banpools so everyone knows the purpose. For example: "anime-servers-alliance" or "gaming-community-bans".
Document Ban Reasons
Always provide clear reasons when issuing cross-bans. This helps other server owners understand the action and keep their communities safe.
Review Regularly
Use /banpool info regularly to verify which servers are in your banpool.
